[3] Mental, late & Soulless

An entry from my other diary. Taken from January 17th 2008.

I was late this morning, because on the way to my class, the sole of my shoe sneaker fell off.

I'm not sure HOW it happened, but it did. And it resulted in me having to limp into University like some civilian casualty of misfortune.
I would have taken the damn thing off completely, I mean, I'm not averse to the shoeless-Gandhi-look, I've done it before, yo! But the ground was so wet and cold and miserable underneath my toes that I at least attempted to keep the sneaker on.

So I hobbled into class and apologised for my tardiness with a bit of:

"So sorry I'm late! My sole fell off!!"

But by the sea of shocked, semi-fascinated faces staring back at me, I think they must have thought I was announcing that my SOUL had fallen off, which would be a different set of circumstances completely. I'm sure we'd agree??

Imagine.

I'm not entirely sure what I would have done if my soul had fallen off. I mean, is there a particular procedure to carry out if your soul should happen to fall off oneday while you are out? And how would you even know it had? Does anyone even know someone whom this has happened to?

And I dread to think what my class thought, or what they now think about me.
Probably something along the lines of ...

"Lost his soul? I think he's lost his mind too!!"

"What sort of damned heathen being is this!? His soul just fell off!!! I hope he means metaphorically, and there isn't some discarded soul just lying out there on the grass!!",

"FUCKING EMO CHILD! Wandering in here and announcing he has lost his soul. Someone watches too much TV!"

So, what a brilliant introduction I have made to my 18th Century poetry group.
They must all now think I am fucking mental.
And soulness, of all things!!

Maybe I shall spend the rest of our 10 weeks as a class attempting to prove to them that I do actually have a SOUL, and it didn't fall off, and I'm not planning on losing it anytime soon either.

BUT HOW EXACTLY DOES ONE GO ABOUT PROVING THEY HAVE A SOUL!?
And is it hard work? Because I can't be arsed with anything too time consuming or challenging right now.
